Defense still difficult to watch after win over Jags

Our beloved Bears are 2-0 after a 20-19 comeback win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night at Soldier Field, but big question marks remain when it comes to the defense.

Jacksonville put up 13 first quarter points against the 1st team defense giving up big chunks of yardage and back breaking penalties that kept drives alive.

On the 2nd drive Gerhart had an 18-yard run, they converted a 3rd and 12 with a 20 yard pass completion, and Mundy had a holding penalty called on him which concluded with the 2nd field goal for the Jags.

After a fumble on the kickoff, Jacksonville got into the end zone but again the defense had it’s chances. On a 3rd and 13 Chad Henne was sacked by Trevor Scott, but an illegal contact penalty on Kelvin Hayden kept the drive alive that ended with a six yard touchdown catch by Marqise Lee.

Jacksonville didn’t have a drive that resulted in fewer than two first downs until the 3rd quarter. They only punted once in the entire first half as well.

Vast improvement is necessary for this group and it won’t be easy with the all important preseason game three against the defending Super Bowl Champs, the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle.
